Sea Birds Still Sing
You left silently one day in the month of April. The skies went black and cloudy, and the day stretched on forever. My mind collapsed and hasn't yet recovered. The last one standing in a family of four. A singularity I never considered would be reality. No time for blame or shame, just trying to face what is alone. Long walks on the beach. A trip long awaited to the Emerald Isle. Forced social settings without the desire to be there. None of it has lessened the weight of the blanket that covers my mind and heart. You are gone—all three of you now. As I stand alone, I feel nothing but ice. Pain I never imagined courses through my mind. My world has stopped spinning. Why do the sea birds keep singing?
